State Visit

1973 – Danish State Visit to Norway – Days 1 and 2

The year after succeeding to the Danish throne Queen Margrethe II made three State Visits. She travelled first to Sweden where she was received by her grandfather King Gustav VI Adolf. Her second visit went to Norway. King Olav played host during her three days’ stay there and she and her husband were warmly received by the Norwegian Royal Family and the Norwegian people. As was the norm in those days each day ended with a splendid gala event; a State Banquet on the first day, a Gala Performance on the second day and on the last day the Queen and Prince Henry gave a return banquet.

More about this visit to Norway can be found her.

1978 – 75th birthday of King Olav V – 2nd Day

On the second day of the celebrations in connection with King Olav V’s 75th birthday the King had a very busy schedule. He received deputations at the Palace in the morning before attending a service at Oslo Cathedral. Then he was received at the Parliament followed by an arrangement on the square outside of Akershus Castle. The day ended with a gala dinner hosted by the Norwegian Government.

Anniversary

70th birthday – King Olav V – 1st and 2nd Day Events

In July 1973 the Norwegians celebrated the 70th birthday of their beloved monarch, His Majesty King Olav V with several events over two days. And that month there would even be more reason to celebrate as Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Sonja gave birth to a baby boy, thus securing the succession to the Norwegian throne for yet another generation. That event, together with the christening, will no doubt be the subject in a post in the future, but if you want to read more about the birthday celebrations please press the button below to access the page:

State Visit

1990 – Luxembourgish State Visit to Norway

In 1990 His Majesty King Olav hosted what would be his last State Visit. The guests were Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg. Being a State Visit between two monarchies it was a glittering occasion, especially the State Banquet held at the Royal Palace by the Norwegian King. Sadly it has not been possible to find much information about the return event hosted by the Grand Ducal Couple more than it was a dinner. If any of the readers should have more information it would be very interesting to find out more about the visit. To read more about what has been possible to find please follow the below link:

1985 – Zambian State Visit to Norway

Some State Visits during the reign of King Olav was not reported on very much and it can be difficult to find a lot of information about it. One such State Visit is the one made by the Zambian President Kaunda in 1985. Hopefully, one day, it will be possible to find more detailed information about the visit.
